Scott McNealy thinks Windows Edition N will not make a difference

Scott McNealy has not changed. Even after settling battles with their archrivals Microsoft and signing on a cross-licensing software patents deal, he has a thing to say about the latest happenings in the Microsoft vs. the world case. Microsoft has just announced the steps they are taking to come in compliance with the court rulings in the EU anti-trust case.

The chief executive of the networking giant Sun Microsystems has expressed doubts over the changes the version of Windows XP Operating System would bring about. Microsoft is due to release a special version of the Operating System without the Microsoft Windows Media Player bundled to comply with a requirement of the court’s ruling.

Microsoft calls this special version Windows Edition N and is supposed to give the competitors of the company RealNetworks and Apple fair ground in offering software with media playing capabilities. However, McNealy thinks: “Do I think that that particular remedy will significantly alter the market dynamics and choice? It’s doubtful. I would love it if it did, but it’s doubtful.”

Scott also had some words for what his own company is trying to achieve in the coming times. McNealy said in a statement: “Right now, most of our focus is on trying to maximize the productivity of the patent amnesty we have with Microsoft.” Our best wishes are with the Chief Executive of the Sun Microsystems to succeed in their plans!
