Microsoft on Adobe Air technology
Adobe has just launched their Adobe Air 1.0 platform. It is currently available on Windows and Mac platforms.
Microsoft is working on Silverlight which competes with Adobe Flash and might someday become a rival for Adobe Air.
Microsoft said in a statement that Air could pose a security concern for the end user as it runs on the desktop outside the browser.
The software giant said: “There is a significant risk in letting Web applications run loose outside the browser security sandbox. Silverlight applications run within the browser security sandbox.”
Adobe responded by saying that the Air platform features modifications to enable applications to run securely. Michele Turner, Adobe vice president of platforms added: “It’s not that it’s running wild and free on the desktop. We kind of created our own sandbox.”
