Mozilla Firefox downloaded 500 million times officially

Mozilla has revealed that their web browser product Firefox has now been downloaded more than 500 million times from the official sources.

The popular open source project had touched the 400 million download mark in September last year.

Firefox is the only browser in the market to have somewhat managed to put a dent in the market share of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

It originally started as Phoenix project and later took the name Firebird.

The developers behind the project have been working on the version 3 of Firefox which is expected to come out in the near future.
