Microsoft pulls Vista update which caused massive problems for some users
Microsoft has now confirmed our fears. One of their recently released patches had issues with some systems.
We at TechWhack lost one installation of Vista due to this update. System Restore failed and we ended up reinstalling the OS from scratch. Incidentally, an Ubuntu Live CD helped us in recovering the data from the machine.
Microsoft has now confirmed that they are pulling back one of the recently issued update for the Vista operating system which caused problems for some users.
Incidentally, this Servicing stack update KB937287 is one of the requirements for installing the upcoming Service Pack 1 of the Vista OS.
Microsoft product manager Nick White spoke about this problem: “We’ve heard a few reports about problems customers may be experiencing as a result of KB937287. Immediately after receiving reports of this error, we made the decision to temporarily suspend automatic distribution of the update to avoid further customer impact while we investigate possible causes.”
