SIIA targets software sellers on eBay

Software & Information Industry Association has said in a statement that since they have failed to get eBay to take action against the sellers of pirated software on the online retailing site, they are now filing lawsuits against them.

The association has now filed as many as nine lawsuits against the sellers of software on the eBay service.

They had earlier asked eBay to disable features like “buy it now” and one-day auctions for software products. But eBay did not comply with this demand.

SIIA further said that eBay even refused to let them advertise about pirated software on pages where software products were being offered on sale/auction.

Keith Kupferschmid, senior vice president of the trade group added: “SIIA has declared war against those who continue to sell pirated software on auction sites such as eBay. Our goal is to give illegal software sellers a rude awakening so that unsuspecting software buyers and legitimate sellers are protected. For too long, auction sellers have been able to sell pirated software while risking only the removal of their auction.”
