Google launches Google Desktop Search for Enterprise
This news would be somewhat of a shock to the Microsoft’s MSN Search Division. They just recently launched their final version of the MSN Desktop Search through the MSN Search Toolbar Suite. In addition, they announced that they would be launching a corporate desktop searching solution sometime by the end of the year.
However, they have a surprise from their prime competitor in the desktop searching business. Google has just launched their version of the corporate desktop searching. Microsoft is again delayed in something that might result in huge disappointment. Moreover, since Google is THE most used search engine online, businesses might prefer the Google’s version to Microsoft.
Another good reason is that Google’s support for alternative browsers and mail clients. Microsoft as usual is limiting email and browser history search facility to their own version. Google on the other hand is supporting the Mozilla Foundation applications, which are being adopted by lots of businesses around the world.
Google’s version is aimed at corporates providing solutions for helping workers more quickly find information on the Web, in their computer hard drives and e-mail inboxes, as well as on corporate intranets. The product is amazingly available for free which is very typical of Google and might hurt the possible business prospects of Microsoft.
They call it Google Desktop Search for Enterprise and would be targeted at companies where the desktop version is not allowed to be used for privacy reasons. The company says that the product will deliver high-quality search results, offer simple deployment, and provide a set of new features designed specifically for corporate environments.
Google Desktop Search for Enterprise is also integrated with the current solutions available from the search engine giant in the form of Google’s Search Appliance and Mini. It would also support the IBM’s Lotus Notes.
