Snarb.tk today announced the immediate availability of Cover Stream 1.1, a substantial update to its virtual jukebox software. The new version adds a brand new Cover Flow mode that supports embedded artwork and eliminates the need for a consolidated music library. The update also brings improved design, extended controls, a status bar item and other nifty features. It also continues to enhance and tweak the performance of Cover Stream to ensure utmost reliability.

Cover Stream is a full-fledged iTunes controller that extends iTunes “Cover Flow” feature to the desktop, giving users a quick and easy way to visually browse through their entire album collection – without switching applications.

A great looking, light-weight frontend to iTunes, Cover Stream blows away the text-list-heavy interface of iTunes 7 and lets you flick through your albums faster, smoother and more easily than in iTunes itself.

Just like in iTunes, Cover Stream displays all the cover art in your music collection in an easy-to-navigate interface that mimics a CD collection or jukebox selection. You move between covers using the forward and back arrows, use the slider to browse faster or type-search to quickly find what you are looking for.

But it doesn’t stop there.

When you find what you want, you can pick a song from the selected album in an iPhone-like fashion. Simply click the artwork to flip the album over and reveal its tracks on the back of the cover. In addition, Cover Stream gives you access to all your iTunes playlists, just as quick and easy. Simply flip the cover flow over, pick a track or playlist and you’re off!

With global, fully customizable keyboard shortcuts, Cover Stream gives you complete control over iTunes from any application. You can play, pause, skip, rate, adjust sound volume, hide or show iTunes, and much more, without interrupting your workflow.

Track info and album artwork is displayed in a small, floating bezel window whenever you need it. In addition, Cover Stream’s dock icon can be set to reflect the album artwork of the song you are currently listening to. This way you can always see what’s playing at a glance.

Cover Stream 1.1 adds a brand new Cover Flow mode, eliminating the need for a consolidated music library. The new Cover Flow mode also supports embedded artwork, meaning cover art is displayed even if it has not been locally stored on your hard drive. For albums without artwork, a missing artwork poster is displayed instead of a generic MP3 icon, thus reproducing the exact look of the iTunes Cover Flow.

The original QuickLook mode is still available, but optional. The QuickLook mode will load your artwork much faster, but requires a consolidated music library and does not support embedded artwork. Users are recommended to try out both modes and see which one suits their needs best.

The new version also adds a status item to the menu bar, giving the user quick and convenient access to all of Cover Stream’s settings and functionality from any application. It also allows the user to hide Cover Stream’s dock icon, making Cover Stream a faceless background process.

The redesigned preference panel adds many new settings, such as the ability to automatically check for updates, customize the status window, disable dock artwork, prevent the main window for showing on startup, and much more.

Cover Stream 1.1 also reveals the currently playing album after a few seconds of idle time, adds space-bar flipping, and fixes a number of bugs in Cover Stream 1.0. It is a recommended update for all users.
