Service Pack 1 for Office Live Communications Server 2005

Microsoft has released an update to their corporate version of the instant messaging and presence servers. This is one of the first steps the company has taken for interoperating with the three major IM networks out there. They released the update through the Service Pack 1 for its Office Live Communications Server 2005. This update to enable the users to connect to the competing IM standards like AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger networks.

The company is providing this functionality under an option called Public IM Connectivity. Microsoft has announced a couple of months ago that they would be working towards supporting the competing standards when it comes to providing solutions for IM networking. The company has also setup a platform for its upcoming real-time messaging client; formerly code-named Istanbul now renamed Office Communicator 2005.

The Service Pack 1 for its Office Live Communications Server 2005 would be supporting the Office Communicator 2005 and is scheduled to be available by early June. Office Communication 2005 was recently previewed in the media by the company’s chairperson Bill Gates along with the Live Communications Server. This client is also due to replace the Windows Messenger as the preferred client for Office Environment.

Also included in the Service Pack 1 are certain security updates, which enhance the user experience for the application users. It now prevents infections from worms and viruses by allowing the network administrators to Blog out URIs during messaging and prevents SPIM (Spamming on the Instant Messengers). The update also provides enhancements in the way enterprises can directly federate multiple instances of LCS in order to communicate with partners and other companies.
