Sun Microsystems to encourage use of NetBeans IDE
Sun Microsystems has announced that they are soon planning to discontinue its Sun Java Studio Enterprise and Sun Java Studio Creator developer tools.
The company would now encourage developers to use NetBeans IDE instead. The latest edition of this IDE suite is being released today.
Sun added that they would continue to support the existing tools for a while as they are going to honor the support contracts in place.
Greg Sporar, NetBeans technology evangelist at Sun added: “It’s not the kind of thing you just turn the lights out on a particular day. The discontinuances are being done because users want a single tool and framework that can accommodate combinations of functionality; NetBeans serves as that platform.”
He added: “NetBeans is the common component. It is the base of all Sun software development tools.”
