Ruby on Rails 2.0 released

Ruby on Rails 2.0

David Heinemeier Hansson has announced the launch of Ruby on Rails version 2.0.

Ruby on Rails is a popular open source Web application development framework.

Hansson said that one of the key features of this new release is its reliance on REST (Representational State Transfer) Web services.

Ruby was using SOAP Web services in its earlier versions.

He said: “The big thing we’ve been pushing in Rails 2.0 is the whole notion of REST and the whole notion of building REST-ful applications. Rails used to ship with a library that did SOAP Web services. We’ve yanked that out and put in a bunch of things instead focused on doing REST Web services.”

The latest version also has features to protect against phishing. The developers have also included provisions to prevent XSF (cross-site forgery) attacks.
