Microsoft still working hard on Windows for XO laptops
Software giant Microsoft apparently realizes in the potential of the XO laptop developed by the OLPC group.
The company has been pretty aggressive on this front as they want a model of the laptop to ship with their Windows XP operating system.
James Utzschneider, general manager for marketing and communications for Redmond’s Unlimited Potential group wrote in a blog post on the development of a Windows XP port on the XO laptop: “We are hard at work on the project here. Between Microsoft employees and third-party contractors that we have brought into the effort, we have over 40 engineers working full-time on the port.”
XO laptop currently ships with a customized version of Linux as it helps the project to keep the cost of the machine down.
Microsoft is hoping that they would be ready with this port by the middle of next year.
