Google Maps for mobiles now support My Location facility
Google has updated their Google Maps application for mobile devices. This update adds on a new functionality called My Location.
This feature is supported on a variety of mobile devices (does not include Apple iPhone for now however).
My Location feature tries to find out the location of the mobile user by using the surrounding cellular towers.
With this, the application does not have to rely upon the GPS data, a capability few phones in the market have at the moment.
The company said in a statement: “It’s not GPS, but it comes pretty close. We’re still in beta, but we’re excited to launch this feature and are constantly working to improve our coverage and accuracy.”
