Norton Smartphone Security for mobile devices launched

Symantec has announced the launch of their security package for mobile devices. This application has been named Norton Smartphone Security.

Norton Smartphone Security comes loaded with anti-virus technology, a firewall, and anti-spam capabilities.

It is available for mobile devices powered with either Windows Mobile or Symbian operating systems.

The company said that the application is capable of detecting mobile platform viruses and would stop the user from accessing infected files.

The Anti Spam features of the product would detect spam sms messages. The firewall would take care of both inbound and outbound network traffic.

Rowan Trollope, senior VP of Symantec’s Consumer Business Unit spoke about this new product launch: “Unsecure public Wi-Fi or network connections can put users at risk. In addition, Web and e-mail viruses can directly infect smartphones, enabling hackers to remotely control the device, access sensitive information or disable applications.”
