Opera’s Marketing Team goes hyper with CEO announcing his plans
Opera Software ASA has since long kept a low profile in the browser’s market. They have a solid user base, which is very loyal to their products. They are one of the most innovative software developers around. However, the hype surrounding Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and the Open Source Browser Firefox means, it rarely makes headlines.
However, times are changing. People are realizing the power of the tiny browser they call Opera. It was just recently released in the final version 8 and it is making news to be one of best browser around. It is fast and as compatible with standards as any other competitor in the market if not more. It comes feature packaged with an innovative mail client, RSS aggregator, IRC Chat client, and even support for newsgroups.
The marketing team of Opera in the last couple of days has gone hyper. First their marketing campaign for the launch of Opera 8 made news with a funny looking superhero and now the latest marketing ploy is that the CEO of Opera Software ASA has claimed that he will swim from Norway to the USA if download numbers of Opera 8 reach 1 million in four days! When we at TechWhack saw the official press release for the first time, we rechecked our calendar to check if it was April 1. Of course, it is not!
The press release states clearly:
Speculations are running high at Opera Software, and it is expected that making von Tetzchner’s promise public will make it impossible for the courageous CEO to back out. The challenge will end on Saturday at 0900 a.m. CET, but as we are now moving into the weekend, the download figures will be revealed on Monday at www.opera.com.
Now, this is what I call marketing on steroids! We would be seriously waiting for Monday to arrive to check the latest stats!
