Skype is a mega hit as download number touches 100 millions
The makers of the software that has revolutionized VoIP around the world have claimed that Skype has touched the download mark of 100 million copies. The application enables users around the world on the Internet to call one another for free and talk over the Internet. In addition, the company is now also launching two premium services to go with this software release.
The latest version of Skype comes with SkypeIn and Skype Voicemail paid for services. The software is available for all the popular platforms such as Windows, Linux and of course Mac OS. SkypeIn let users get regular phone numbers and receive calls from landline or mobile phones without having to pay roaming charges. Test period would allow the users to purchase as many as three numbers with the facility available in Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Norway, Sweden, UK, and USA.
On the other hand, Skype Voicemail allow users to receive voicemail messages worth 10 minutes from any traditional phone. The company claims that the service is so popular that at any given moment, there would be approximate 2 million users on the net connected to Skype. About these new services, Niklas Zennstrom, the company’s chief executive and co-founder said in a statement: “SkypeIn and Skype Voicemail enhance the basic free Skype and give friends, family and colleagues not connected to the Internet an inexpensive and convenient way to contact members of our global user base.â€
SkypeIn would costs the users USD 13 for a period of three months or USD 39 for a full year. Skype Voicemail on the other hand is cheaper at USD 7 for three months and USD 19 for an entire year. Looks like Skype’s popularity is not going to dim down in the near future.

We still unfortunately need to make extra things to make skype run under certain distributions of Linux..
It’s now early December and Skype’s site shows 215 million downloads.
