Microsoft still working on plans to get Windows OS on XO laptop
Microsoft has stated that they are still working on plans to get their Windows OS on the OLPC’s XO Laptop product which currently uses a customized edition of Linux.
A company representative said that they are working on making a version of basic version of Windows XP run on the hardware supplied on the laptop designed for kids in developing nations.
Microsoft Corporate Vice President Will Poole added in his statement: “We’re spending a nontrivial amount of money on it. We remain hopeful with our progress to date, we still have significant work ahead to finalize our analysis and testing processes. At the end of the day, there’s no guarantees.”
The laptop is fondly called the USD 100 laptop as it is the price OLPC people are trying to achieve in the longer run. As of now, it costs around USD 200.
