Steve Ballmer: Mobile is important for Microsoft
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has said in a statement that mobile phones are an important market for their company.
Microsoft wants to have a major presence in both software and services segment for the mobile devices.
Since the beginning, Microsoft has primarily been a software company concentrating on the desktop segment.
They are now focusing a lot on providing web based services. Microsoft also has a major presence in mobile software as they offer Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system.
Ballmer said in a statement: “There’s no better way then the cell networks of the world to make this model happen.”
Ballmer also confirmed that they have no plans to bid in the upcoming 700MHz spectrum auction. He said: “What would it buy us to own a piece of spectrum? It would probably do a lot to alienate the telecom industry. It does not do a lot to advance our goal, which is to take some exciting technology and spread it.”
