Mandrake is now Mandriva after acquiring Conectiva
One of the popular Linux Distro around Mandrake has got a new name now. The company acquired another Linux Distro named Conectiva and the new name of the company is simply Mandriva. This step also helps the company get rid of an ongoing trademark dispute. The company has retained its old logo though the website address and the product range has been updated with this new name.
They were running in dispute over the usage of the name Mandrakesoft against a company named Hearst Corporation. This name change fixes that. They had acquired the South America based company in February this year for Euro 1.79 million (US$2.3 million).
The company was ranked at an impressive forth place on the list of top Linux Distros around the world. The first three places going to Red Hat, Novell, and Turbolinux as per a survey conducted by IDC. Their new website can be found at Mandriva.
