Symantec warns that RealPlayer exploit being used by hackers

Security software maker Symantec has said in a release that hackers have already started to exploit the recently discovered attack code that affects the RealPlayer 11 beta and RealPlayer 10.5 software on the Windows platform.

The company has already confirmed that the attack code works on English version of Windows XP Service Pack 1 running Internet Explorer 6.

The bug lies in the browser helper object which is used by the application to enable the user to get help with technical issues.

The company however added that the attack code has not be published on public forums so there is some time before it becomes widespread.

Symantec further said that users with up to date Symantec security products are already secure from this latest security issue.
