Ubuntu 7.10 finally released
The developers behind the popular Linux Distro Ubuntu have released their latest edition. Ubuntu 7.10 is out and it has been named the Gutsy Gibbon edition.
It arrived as per the original scheduled on October 18. And the release managed to meet the requirement of a major release every six months.
The latest edition of Ubuntu ships with GNOME 2.20 desktop environment, the Compiz Fusion 3D desktop effects software, Tracker for desktop search, fast user switching, dynamic screen configuration and a new graphical display configuration tool.
It also supports automatic printer installation software, and NTFS-3g to enable reads and writes to Windows partitions.
For notebook users, Ubuntu comes loaded with extra goodies which helps them to reduce power consumption via a Linux kernel update that allows the CPU to use less power and produce less heat.
Ubuntu 7.10 is available as both a desktop and server edition.
