Red Hat and Novell sued for patent infringement
Linux companies Red Hat and Novell have been sued for patent infringement. These lawsuits have been filed by a “portfolio licensing” company named IP Innovation.
These lawsuits are related to patents which were once owned by Xerox. IP Innovation is claiming in their lawsuit that both the companies are infringing on their US patent number 5,072,412.
This patent is related to a “User interface with multiple workspaces for sharing display system objects”.
It was filed originally in 1987 by Xerox. They were granted the patent in 1991. IP Innovation further claims that they warned both the companies but nothing was done to solve their problems.

About

It becomes more and more clear how stupid software patents really are. Once started as a means of encouraging innivation, they now bring software development to a halt.
I really hope politicians throughout the world will see this and act accordingly.
