Puppy 3.0 released

The developers behind the Puppy Linux Distro have announced the launch of the Puppy 3.0 Live CD edition.

It is small enough to run from the CD itself and has a size of just around 97.6MBs.

The latest release is a major upgrade as per the developers behind the project. It has been developed in such a way that the entire operating system and all the applications can be run entirely from RAM.

It comes loaded with several applications and tools including AbiWord, Sodipodi, Gnumeric, and Gxine/xine.

It can also be run on a machine using a USB pen drive or ZIP disks. As a result it works as an excellent recovery toolkit.

The latest release is now compatible with Slackware and users would be able to install Slackware packages on Puppy.

Barry Kauler, developer added in a statement: “Most of the libraries in Puppy are now from Slackware. Note, though, this does not in any way make Puppy a clone of Slackware- apart from aiming for binary compatibility, Puppy is fundamentally unique from the foundations upward.”
