Not many developers are interested in using GPLv3 for their work
Market survey by Evans Data has found that only a fraction of open source developers are impressed with the GPLv3 and are going to release their work with this license.
They are basically afraid of the restrictions it places on their work. More than 40% of the developers said that they are not planning to adopt this updated license in the future.
John Andrews, CEO said in a statement: “GPLv3 is controversial because it imposes restrictions on what you can do with programs.”
Their report states that as per their survey only around 6% of the 380 open source developers have adopted GPLv3. 66% developers have no plans to use it in the coming year.
Linux kernel creator Linus Torvalds has already stated his dislike for this license and is unlikely to use it in the near future.
