Ubuntu 7.10 Beta released

The developers behind the Ubuntu Linux OS have released the first beta of their upcoming Ubuntu 7.10 edition.

They are however suggesting that users do not install it over their regular machines as it still might have issues which can cause problems for them.

Some of the new features in this new beta release:

It comes with the latest Gnome edition which is in version 2.20 now. Compiz Fusion is enabled by default on machines which are likely to support it. It also comes with Tracker indexer which is an alternative to Google Desktop search for Ubuntu users.

Developers have also implemented fast user switching for those machines which are used by multiple users. Driver support for graphic cards is improved in this edition. The beta also ships with Graphical configuration tool for X. This would remove the need to manually edit the text file to change the settings.

This beta also comes with better support for installing printers on Ubuntu. Handling of non-free device drivers has been improved. NTFS Writing is also supported by default. This is just a small list!
