LessWatts.org initiative from Intel
World’s leading microprocessor company Intel is scheduled to announced an open-source project they have named LessWatts.org.
The project has been started to improve the power consumption of Linux OS and its applications.
It is expected to be officially launched by Renee James, corporate vice president of Intel’s Software and Solutions Group at the ongoing Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.
The project offers an application named PowerTOP which would tell the user on what application is leading to more power consumption on their machines.
In addition, it also features Linux Battery Life Toolkit which can be used by the developers to measure the power consumption change while coding their applications.
This project is expected to get support from some of the major Linux supporters including Oracle and Linux companies like Novell and Red Hat.
