Microsoft to support Moonlight project to bring Silverlight to Linux

Software giant Microsoft has just launched the first stable version of their Silverlight technology which has been designed to take on Adobe Flash.

The company has released the software for the Windows and Mac OS X platform. Linux version is currently missing.

However, Microsoft has announced that they would be working with Novell on the Moonlight project to bring the Silverlight technology on the Linux platform.

The company announced that they would build the video codecs for the Moonlight project.

They would then supply the software to Novell to let them test the technology to make sure it runs well on 32-bit and 64-bit PCs.

The Linux versions are expected to be ready in the next six months.

The cost of the project to the Open Source community is too high, the video codecs will only be accessable thru moonlight not any other method see http://braincore.blogspot.com/2007/09/sold-out.html

Maybe Novell is evil, though for the time being I continue to use openSuse
