Microsoft releases Silverlight 1.0

Microsoft Silverlight 2 beta is out

Software giant Microsoft has now shipped the first stable release of their Silverlight media player technology.

This product has been designed to compete directly with Adobe Flash to deliver rich content online.

Microsoft further announced several partnerships which would enable them to extend the popularity of this player.

The company has signed deals with several high-profile partners including Home Shopping Network, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Entertainment Tonight.

These partners would now be using Silverlight technology to broadcast digital media online.

Microsoft is hoping that these partnerships would help them deliver more than 200 million downloads of the player by the end of June next year.

Microsoft Silverlight is going to face serious challenge from the upcoming Moviestar update of Adobe Flash which would bring support for high definition video.
