Microsoft announces TrueSwitch to enable web users to switch to Live Hotmail webmail service.
The service makes it easier for the user to switch their email ids to a one on Hotmail.com. This service enables the user to enter the details of their old email accounts and they get an option to copy data from that service to their Microsoft’s Live Hotmail account.
We tested the service with one of our Gmail accounts and the service gave us the option to copy our address book, emails and calendar from this account. We were not told to stay on the service while the data is being carried over.
Instead, they transfer it themselves, and the user can just move away from the website and continue surfing the web. The service copies the data to the MSN Live Hotmail servers so it remains safe on your previous email id.
It also enables the user to inform all the people on the address book of the previous email account of their newly created Live Hotmail ID automatically. It currently supports data transfer from AOL, AT&T Yahoo!, Comcast, Gmail, Hotmail, Juno, Live.com, MSN, Mac.com, Netzero, Q.com, Verizon and Yahoo domains.
Looks like users of Indian email services like RediffMail and Indiatimes Mail would have to wait.
