AutoPatcher project blocked by Microsoft
AutoPatcher is basically a downloadable collection of up-to-date security patches, add-ons and registry tweaks which makes it easier for the user to update a Windows OS powered system without requiring an internet connection. Several packages are available for operating systems including Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows Vista.
This is sad news for the thousands of AutoPatcher users who preferred to get the patches for their Windows machines through a simple downloadable file.
The people at Neowin announced this news saying that they were contacted by Microsoft which stated that they are no longer permitted to endorse the project.
The project has been active since 2003 and surprisingly it took Microsoft 4 years to take this step.
Neowin has for now disabled access to the forums on their site which are related to the AutoPatcher project.
The project has been a massive hit amongst the users and it was also being distributed by computer magazines around the world.
The developers have said that they are considering providing a solution which would work from a single location but would download the patches directly from the Microsoft’s website. This should solve the issue Microsoft has with the AutoPatcher as they say that the patches should be downloaded from their servers.
