Sourcefire acquires open source project ClamAV
Sourcefire has announced that they are acquiring the open source anti-malware project ClamAV.
The company said that as part of their deal, they are acquiring all of the project’s technology and related trademarks along with the copyrights owned by the developers involved in the effort.
They are also going to acquire all the project’s online properties. Sourcefire added that they would continue to involve all of ClamAV’s existing five-person team as they aim to continue the development of this project.
ClamAV technology is used on products and services provided by several vendors around the world including Barracuda Networks, Demon, and WatchGuard.
The company said in a statement: “This acquisition gives Sourcefire the ability to bring together two of the security industry’s most widely adopted open-source projects Snort and ClamAV. Sourcefire will continue to invest in the ClamAV technology, much as we have with Snort and Snort.org.”
