Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu to deploy Linux in Schools
The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has revealed that they would now be deploying SuSe Linux Enterprise across 30,000 desktops and 1,880 servers in schools.
The ELCOT is essentially a government-owned agency which is responsible for providing IT services to Tamil Nadu in India.
Incidentally, they have already migrated its own IT infrastructure from Microsoft developed products to SuSe Linux Enterprise Server and SuSe Linux Enterprise Desktop.
C. Umashankar, managing director of ELCOT had said earlier this year that they were moving to open source solutions for their requirement as it cost them less.
They have worked in collaboration with teachers to setup a common preloaded set of applications for the 30,000 new PCs.
