Lenovo to offer SuSE 10 Linux on Notebooks
Linux is increasingly becoming an interesting alternative to Windows OS for PC manufacturers. Dell made big news when they announced plans to offer Ubuntu powered desktop and laptops in the US market.
Now, Lenovo has announced that they would start shipping ThinkPad notebooks with Novell’s SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10.
These new notebooks are expected to be made available in the market by the last quarter of the current year.
However, these notebooks would be aimed at Business users. Dell’s Ubuntu powered machines on the other hand are geared towards home users.
Sam Dusi, vice president, product marketing, Notebook Business Unit, Lenovo had this to say on this new development: “We have seen more customers utilizing and requesting open source notebook solutions in education, government and the enterprise since our ThinkPad T60p Linux announcement.”
