Microsoft’s Internet Explorer global usage share is 93.9 percent according to OneStat.com
Amsterdam – May 28 2004 – OneStat.com ( www.onestat.com ), the number one provider of real-time web analytics, today reported that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has a total global usage share of 93.9 percent. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still dominates the global browser market.

So what has happened to the other 6.1%? Well, the problem stems from the fact that Redmond Giant has so far failed to implement W3C standards in its browser and therefore is proactively annoying webdesigners and webmasters all over the world. Developers are being either forced to write to the IE standard, develop lower quality sites thatt will run on both standards based browsers and IE or just ignore the 6.1% of the market who actually comply to standards. And, let’s be honest here, they’re not going to ditch IE just for the remaining 6.1%.

So what can be done about this. Well you could switch to a standards based browser like Mozilla’s Firefox, or you can live with it. And that seems to be the way it is.

What I don’t understand is why Microsoft won’t implement the standards properly. Yes, they are now the “defacto” standard, but if the just complied with the standards then the remaining 6.1% will have no excuse to complain about IE and not use it…

There is a really great thread about this over at MSDN’s channel 9. I recommend you go check it out…
