Apple iPhone gets Exchange Support through Synchronica Mobile Gateway
Synchronica PLC is an international provider of mobile-synchronization and device-management solutions. The company has now announced the launch of their Mobile Gateway 3.0 which supports over-the-air synchronization between Microsoft Exchange and the Apple iPhone mobile device.
As a result, mobile service companies would now be able to provide mobile synchronization using Exchange to business users and regular customers.
The company said that Apple iPhone owners would be able to safely access corporate emails.
Synchronica further claims that the Mobile Gateway “seamlessly integrates with the corporate IT infrastructure and does not require the enterprise to expose IMAP and SMTP in their Exchange servers or install additional connectors”.
They are using Microsoft’s secure Outlook Web Access (OWA) to retrieve email from the corporate Exchange server and the mails are going to be delivered to the inbuilt mail client on the Apple iPhone.
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica added in a statement on their new offering: “The iPhone is a very attractive smartphone, appealing to both the consumer and prosumer market. However, IT Managers are not going to permit their executives to synchronize a device that requires them to punch holes in the corporate firewall. Mobile Gateway already supports synchronization with Microsoft Exchange, but does not require firewall modification or any software to be installed in the corporate network, so this won’t be an issue. From a carrier’s perspective, we are significantly expanding the reach of the iPhone into the business user and prosumer segments.”

About

I’ve been using Exchange on my iPhone with my company’s Exchange server with no problems since I got my iPhone last week. My coworkers with their blackberries have been having trouble filing and deleting messages (a configuration mistake in our local blackberry servers they tell me), but my experience has been fine with the iPhone. I’m not using the Synchonica Mobile Geteway, just the built-in Exchange support offered by Apple with the iPhone.
