Common UNIX Printing System is now officially part of Apple Inc.
The creator of the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) has revealed that the software code has been acquired by Apple.
In fact, the CUPS code has been a part of Apple’s Mac OS X since Jaguar (Mac OS X v10.2).
Michael R Sweet, creator of CUPS said in a statement: “In February of 2007, Apple Inc. acquired ownership the CUPS source code and hired me (Michael R Sweet), the creator of CUPS.”
Sweet however clarified that despite this acquisition, CUPS would continue to remain an open-source project available for UNIX and other operating systems under a GPL2/LGPL2 license.
He added that he plans to continue working on the project though he spends most of his working time on other projects.
