Microsoft: TurboLinux to help translate Open XML to Asian languages

Software giant Microsoft has said that they would be using TurboLinux’s expertise to help in translating documents between Open XML and ODF file formats for Japanese and Chinese users.

TurboLinux is now joining the Microsoft-funded Open XML-ODF translator project. Their work would involve making sure that the documents based on Open XML can communicate smoothly with ODF-based documents in Office suites using Japanese and Chinese characters.

Jean Paoli, general manager, interoperability and XML architecture at Microsoft added on this new development: “TurboLinux is one of the major distributors of Linux in Japan and China. They are bringing more knowledge.”

TurboLinux is already involved in providing a version of OpenOffice.org for Japan and China. They would be making sure that OpenOffice suite would be able to read and write Open XML files.
