Apple releases Mac OS X 10.4.10 update to fix IPv6 Security Hole

Apple has updated their Mac OS X operating system to fix some security flaws. The latest version is now Mac OS X 10.4.10 and it specifically fixes the IPv6 Security Hole.

The flaw caused denial-of-service attacks and a security bypass and the update now addresses the problem by disabling support for the headers.

EADS Corporate Research Center research engineers Philippe Biondi and Arnaud Ebalard had shown this flaw in the operating system back in April this year.

Bob Hinden, chairman of the IPv6 working group at Internet Engineering Task Force had said at that time: “The implementer community is rapidly enabling fixes, and the standards body is rapidly trying to change it so it can’t be used in a bad way.”

Apple added in its advisory that the bug doesn’t affect systems prior to Mac OS X 10.4.

The latest update is available for Mac OS X 10.4 through Mac OS X 10.4.9 and Mac OS X Server 10.4 through Mac OS X Server 10.4.9. Users can use the internal update utility to patch their machines or download the files from the Apple website.
