OpenOffice Mac native version gets an alpha release

The developers behind the OpenOffice project have released the first alpha release of their upcoming Mac native version.

The release is quite important as it is the first major step in the development of the Mac port of the software.

Earlier releases of the software for the Mac platform had to be used along with X11 windowing application as supplied by Apple.

This is the first release of its kind to be free of any such requirement as the application would now run in the native mode on the Mac OS X.

However, this release is quite buggy and is not fully tested. There are major bugs and the overall application is not recommended for production environment.

It would take some more test releases before the users are suggested to consider using the OpenOffice Mac Native version as their regular office productivity suite.
