Microsoft now signs up a Linux deal with LG Electronics

Microsoft continues to sign up new deals related to unrevealed patented Microsoft technologies used in the Linux powered devices manufactured by LG Electronics.

The cross-licensing patent agreement between Microsoft and LG means that the South Korean tech giant can now use undefined “patented Microsoft technology” in its products. This deal specifically includes Linux powered devices.

Microsoft and LG added that their deal also covers intellectual property contained in other hardware and software products.

Microsoft has till now signed up similar deals with other tech companies including Xandros, Novell, Samsung, and Fuji Xerox.

And these deals are being signed by the software giant without revealing any information related to which patents of there are being violated by the Linux and other OS products.

David Kaefer, general manager of IP licensing at Microsoft said on this deal: “This agreement is focused only on exchange of patent rights. The open source elements of the deal do utilize a covenant model similar to the Xandros and Novell deals, but this deal is most similar to recent agreements with Samsung and Fuji Xerox.”
