Microsoft announces Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008

Software giant Microsoft has announced the details related to their upcoming major upgrades to their Visual Studio software development tools platform and SQL Server database.

These two products would be called Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008. The announcements were made at the Microsoft TechEd 2007 conference.

These two products were codenamed Orcas and Katmai respectively. Steve Guggenheimer, general manager of the applications platform at Microsoft added in a statement that they are scheduled to deliver Visual Studio 2008 by the end of 2007.

Guggenheimer added on the upcoming Visual Studio upgrade: “This release is very much oriented toward supporting the Vista and Office release as well as the Longhorn Server release.”

Microsoft further said that the SQL Server 2008 would start shipping around the middle of 2008 and it would include improvements for enterprise scalability and business intelligence.

The company has also now released Community Technology Previews for BizTalk Services and the .Net Framework 3.5.
