Apple updates QuickTime to patch a serious flaw
iPod maker Apple Inc. has updated their QuickTime application once again this month to fix a security flaw they missed on patching earlier.
Apple said that the latest QuickTime 7.1.6 has fixes for two issues in the way QuickTime works on the Java platform.
One of these flaws was serious enough to give hackers a way of taking control of an unpatched computer. Apple added in its alert: “By enticing a user to visit a Web page containing a maliciously crafted Java applet, an attacker can trigger the issue which may lead to arbitrary code execution.”
The second bug fixed in this updated release is somewhat less critical. Though, Apple did say that the bug could allow an attacker to have a look into the Web browser’s memory and lead to the disclosure of sensitive information.”
