Google launches their own Security Blog

Google already has taken several steps to help users stay secure online. They provide a free Google Pack package which comes loaded with an antivirus application along with an antispyware package.

Now, the company has officially launched their own security blog. The purpose of this new blog is to keep Internet users informed about security threats.

One of the first posts on the blog has Panayiotis Mavrommatis and Niels Provos of Google’s Anti-Malware Team clarifying the misinterpretation of the company’s own study about the prevalence of malware online: “Unfortunately, the scope of the problem has recently been somewhat misreported to suggest that one in 10 Web sites are potentially malicious. To clarify, a sample-based analysis puts the fraction of malicious pages at roughly 0.1%.”

Google incidentally is also one of the force behind the StopBadware.org project which acts as a neighborhood watch group on the Internet. They are also labeling sites on their search engine results which they find are suspicious… Users are greeted with a message saying: “This site may harm your computer.”
