Dell Ubuntu powered machines to be launched May 24
Market sources claim that Dell would be launching their much awaited Ubuntu Linux powered computers on May 24.
This was revealed in a blog post by LinuxQuestions.org founder Jeremy Garcia who said that he received a news from the company representative saying: “We will be launching a Linux based OS (Ubuntu) on the E520, 1505 and XPS 410 starting next Thursday, 5/24.”
The Dell representative was quoted as saying: “We expect these systems to be less than 1% of our OS mix for the entire year which is ~20,000 systems annually.”
He added: “The goal of launching Linux is to continue to give our customers more choices to customize their new Dell. Providing more options to our Linux Enthusiast customer group will hopefully create even more Raving Fans!!”
The company is however still to make this official on their Direct2Dell website. They are likely to start with three products namely: Dimension E520, Inspiron E1505 and the XPS 410.
