Zango sues the makers of Spyware Doctor software

Adware maker Zango has announced their decision to sue the makers of the popular Spyware Doctor software.

Zango said that they are not happy with the way Spyware Doctor identifies and remove Zango’s technology.

PC Tools said in a statement on this lawsuit: “We believe the proceedings are an attempt by Zango to influence our reclassification process. Prior to the lawsuit we were well into an in-depth review and reclassification of the latest versions of Zango products. We advised Zango of this imminent re-rating and we believe they have chosen to lodge these proceedings as a way to gain media attention of the review.”

Incidentally, Google ships a free version of the Spyware Doctor application in their Google Pack suite which is used by millions of users worldwide. This version assigns Zango an “elevated” threat-level rating.

Market sources claim that Zango is o is seeking at least $35 million in damages. It seems to be claiming in the lawsuit that the antispyware application removes Zango’s software without warning users that it will be deleted.
