Oracle acquires a stake in Sophoi

Database industry giants Oracle continues to buy stakes in smaller companies. The company has now revealed that they have acquired a minority stake in Sophoi, a privately held company.

Sophoi specializes in making software for the media and entertainment industries to manage and license their intellectual property.

The two companies did not reveal the terms and conditions of this deal. Sophoi though said that they would continue to operate as an independent company.

Oracle on their part are appointing two people to its board of directors.

One of the key products developed and sold by Sophoi includes the iPLS (Intellectual Property Licensing Suite). It is used by customers including some big names like British Sky Broadcasting, Dreamworks Animation, and Paramount Pictures.

The two companies added that they now plan to jointly target customers in the media and entertainment industries.
