Microsoft: Vista already sold 40 million licenses
Software giant Microsoft launched the Windows Vista operating system earlier this year. The company has now said that they have already sold more than 40 million licenses of this new generation of their OS product.
This feat was achieved in just around 100 days of the launch of Vista. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said on the occasion that an accelerating consumer shift to digital lifestyles had helped make the operating system the fastest-selling in history.
Gates further said that the premium editions of the Windows Vista OS have accounted for 78 percent of total sales of the Vista OS.
Vista was the first major operating system launch from the company for the consumer in nearly 5 years. The OS launch suffered several delays which resulted in the company taking out some of the much anticipated features from the final product.
Microsoft further announced that they are now officially making its next-generation Windows Server software as Windows Server 2008. the product was being referred to as Longhorn till now.
Bill Gates further said in his statement at the Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Engineering Conference 2007 in Los Angeles that Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 will provide a platform for hardware innovations and drive increased demand for a wide range of new PCs and devices.
