Microsoft and Lenovo in a mega software deal
PC manufacturer Lenovo has revealed that they have signed on a mega software deal with US based software company Microsoft.
Lenovo would be acquiring Windows OS, MS Office productivity Suite and other software applications from Microsoft in a deal worth around $1.3 billion.
The hardware company would be shipping these software products with their computers sold in the market. Interestingly, this deal comes at the time when rival companies like Dell are increasing their focus on delivering Linux powered machines to the end user which comes loaded with free open source applications.
A Lenovo spokesperson said on this deal: “Our projection is the price tag could be as much as $1.3 billion for this fiscal year. Last year’s agreement was executed very well.”
Lenovo senior vice president Chen Shaopeng added that this deal has been designed to advance “one of the most important goals of international business: the protection of intellectual property”.
The two companies interestingly are already working on a joint research and development innovation centre in China.
