Apple Mac web usage doubles in the last eight months

As per web analytic companies, Apple Mac users have doubled on the web in the last eight months or so. Geoff Johnston, an analyst at WebSideStory in San Diego spoke about their findings: “The amazing story since last summer has been how well the Mac is doing. For the longest time, Mac hung around 3 per cent of the operating systems using the web. But it picked up around last summer, and has nearly doubled its market share.”

WebSideStory along with rival company Net Applications have put the market share of Mac OS X at close to or just over 6 per cent of all machines in the US that connected to the web last month. Johnston added: “For the first time since 1999, when we started tracking, the Mac has really made a major push.”

Net Applications itself placed the total market share of Mac users at 6.2 per cent for April.

Johnston further spoke about this increased Mac usage on the web: “When you see Mac, or any browser, like Firefox, moving past 5 per cent, you just can’t turn them away.”

Johnston finally said: “Macs are starting to erode Microsoft’s market share.”
