Microsoft issue fixes for DNS bug in server operating systems

Microsoft has issued the latest patches on this month’s Patch Tuesday. The company fixed issues in their Windows OS in addition to MS Office and Exchange.

Microsoft issued seven sets of patches to fix a total of 19 bugs. Incidentally, they have labeled all of these patches as Critical.

Security experts believe that MS07-026 and MS07-029 updates are the most important of the lot and would concern a lot of network administrators.

These two updates are for flaws in Exchange and the Windows DNS (Domain Name System) server.

Paul Zinski, director of product and market strategy at PatchLink Corp. spoke about this latest bunch of updates issued by Microsoft: “The biggest impact to organizations is going to be the Exchange update. It really affects core business.”

Amol Sarwate, manager of Qualys Inc.’s vulnerability research lab spoke about the update to fix the DNS bug: “A lot of people were waiting very anxiously for that patch.”

In addition, Microsoft also released patches to fix issues in Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Office and the CAPICOM cryptography technology used by BizTalk Server.
