AOL could potentially have user password security problem

AOL users might not have forgiven the internet company for releasing the searched terms containing sensitive information a couple of months back.

Now, the company could find itself in more trouble. A posting on the Washington Post’s “Security Fix” blog claims that the AOL’s password system is not as secure as they would like you to believe.

Apparently the system has been designed in such a way that it only takes into consideration the first eight characters of the inserted password.

As a result, even if the user has inserted a pretty long password, the system would work with the first eight characters of the password!

This could become a security issue for people who prefer to use their real names in the beginning of the password suffixed by some code.

It remains to be seen how AOL responds to this latest security glitch from their side.
